The Explorer Scout Section is for young people, aged between 14 and 18 years. Explorer Scouts is the Fourth section in the Scout Movement, above Beavers, Cubs and scouts.
Explorer Scouts is run By Strathcalder Scout district rather than the 3rd East Kilbride. The East Kilbride Explorer unit meets in the 3rd East Kilbride hall, so it is included on this website for completeness. The East Kilbride explorer unit meet on a Tuesday night.
Explorers take part in a wide range of activities and can often be found out with the hall, even if that is just at the bowling, or doing more adventurous activities such as kayaking or hill walking. As well as Tuesday nights explorers also regularly take part in weekends away and even take part in international experiences, we have three explorers going to Indonesia and one going to Japan in 2015. As Explorers you have a large say in what you do and the program is based around feedback and requests.
Also as an explorer you have the opportunity to complete awards which will enhance your CV or UCAS application, these include Duke of Edinburgh. You will also get the opportunity to take part in leadership as part of the young leadership scheme, where you can take part in the leadership team of a younger section and complete leadership training.
